This is so hilariously true

In the 20 years I’ve been alive I’ve see drugs and alcohol destroy relationships, individuals sanity, and I have even seen it take lives. I’ve seen these substances create more problems more than I’ve seen them help. Don’t get it twisted, I don’t hate people who drink, smoke, and or do drugs. And if you think I think I’m better than you for not doing so, you clearly don’t know me. I’ve just seen enough horrible things happen in relation to these substances that I know, I want no part. Avoiding these things have taught me so much about myself and I’m thankful I found The Straight Edge at a time where I so strongly needed it. Thank you the band The Effort and all of the straight edge community for showing me that it’s encouraged to have clear mind through hard times. People tend to wonder how people can drag a blade across their own skin and tear up their own flesh.  It’s true, it’s a strange addiction, but it has its perks.  People get so much from it, far more than listening to music, talking to someone, or using any other coping skills of the sort.  It’s easy to grasp onto because in my opinion, it’s the best way to distract from your true feelings.  The downside is it’s only temporary.  When you bottle up the feelings for so long, they start to surface.  And that’s where a self harmer knows they have to cut again so they don’t have to deal with the emotions.  Emotions are a scary and powerful thing, especially since they are most likely traumatic.  So no, self harm is not crazy and I need EVERYONE to know that.  Please, if you self harm know that you are not alone and you aren’t wrong for doing so.  You are not crazy.  You’ve been hurt with so much pain in your life.  No one wakes up one day and thinks, oh I want to slice my arms up just cause.  It takes a lot of build up for something like this to happen.  I hope I covered most of it because this is what self harm is.  I think of it as no different from alcohol, drugs, smoking, etc.  They’re all addictions and need to be recognized.  Self harmers are hurting, and saying things like it’s stupid could result in their death, because the cuts will get deeper the more they hear things like this.  Please stop the hate.  If you don’t feel loved, or feel like you’re not being heard.  I am listening, and I am here.  Know you are loved, even  if it’s from just one person.  That one person could save your life.  In my experience, people who struggle with depression, self harm, eating disorders, anxiety, suicidal urges are some of the greatest and bravest people I’ve ever met.  You are still here!  Please know that’s a very strong thing to do when you went through so much shit.
